Music & Songs

Songs and musical activities that engage participants of all ages—making feasts magical for children and adults alike

Body Percussives

Body percussion activities are wonderful for community gatherings because they require no instruments, involve everyone equally, and create a powerful sense of unity. These simple songs with accompanying movements are perfect for making feasts engaging for young children while also delighting participants of all ages.

Possess a Pure Heart

"Possess a pure heart." (ba-dum, ba-dum, BUM)
"A kindly heart." (ba-dum, ba-dum, BUM)
"A radiant heart." (ba-dum, ba-dum, BUM)

How to Make the Beat

For each line:

  • Tap your heart gently twice (for ba-dum, ba-dum)
  • Follow with one final, slightly stronger tap on the last word (BUM on "heart")

Let Your Hearts Be Filled

"Let your hearts be filled" Gently tap chest four times: tap-tap-tap-tap
"with love and kindness." Slowly clap hands two times: CLAP... CLAP
"Let your tongues be moved" Gently pat lap four times: pat-pat-pat-pat
"with praise and thanksgiving." Slowly clap hands two times: CLAP... CLAP

Visualizations

These songs combine music with meaningful visual or physical activities that help participants of all ages engage more deeply with the spiritual concepts being explored.

We Are Drops

The Visualization Activity

  1. Place a large, beautiful bowl of water in the center of the room.
  2. Give each participant at the feast a small container of water.
  3. Throughout the course of the song, everyone walks with a prayerful energy and pours their water into the center bowl.

From the Writings

"O ye beloved of the Lord! In this sacred Dispensation, conflict and contention are in no wise permitted. Every aggressor deprives himself of God's grace. It is incumbent upon everyone to show the utmost love, rectitude of conduct, straightforwardness and sincere kindliness unto all the peoples and kindreds of the world, be they friends or strangers..."
— 'Abdu'l-Bahá, Tablets of the Divine Plan

As each person pours their individual water into the common bowl, it becomes impossible to distinguish one person's contribution from another—a powerful visual metaphor for how our individual spirits unite in service to the common good, becoming one ocean of humanity.
